Before a person separates a transmission and engine, they must disconnect the Torque Converter from the flexplate/flywheel. The process involves removing the flywheel cover under the transmission, turning the crankshaft to access the retaining nuts, and then unscrewing them one at a time. There are four 9/16″ nuts in the larger set of flexplate holes.
