I have a little more coding to do before I write up the final and follow-up post for these threads, but in the meantime, I’ve ordered a plastic gear and chain set in the hopes I can eliminate my rotation issue. I’m still not sure why my Y-direction pulley is slipping from the friction of the belt.
Hopefully next week, I’ll have several posts regarding the efficacy of chains versus belts, as well as the cool new programming I’ve been developing for the CNC manipulation of the Monster, like my interactive directionality controls, the custom UI CNC path preview, the mathematics behind the translation of the pulley-to-rod-to-mechanics of the Monster, and the subroutines I’ll inevitably post to my wiki (once I’m confident what I’m writing will freaking work out. 🙂 )
Wow, great work. I check in to see what your up to and your place looks like Doc Brown’s house.
The eames chair is also cool. Careful on the rubber shock absorber connections to the underside of the plywood if you refinish it. Don’t know how well the old glue will hold or be disrupted by any solvents, something to look into maybe.
I’ve already sourced an online company that makes replacement shock absorbers. These original absorbers are totally shot. In fact, I’m still trying to figure out how to pull the old stoppers off (maybe some kind of solvent) because the nuts that are nested in the shock absorbers are just spinning. Thus, I can’t unscrew the chair. I have bigger fish to fry right now though, so that is on the backburner.
