Default July WVO Roadtrip. Minneapolis - Ontario - Quebec - New England - Ohio

Hi all,
Once again, we are heading out on a WVO roadtrip. This time we are starting in Minneapolis and traveling through Thunder Bay, Sault Ste Marie, Ottawa, Montreal, possibly Labrador, Halifax, Maine, Vermont, Boston, Southern PA, Ohio, Indianapolis, Chicago and WI. We're beginning our trip on July 2 and it will last for a couple weeks. Here's a map.

Over the years, we've had a great time traveling on these WVO road trips and meeting other greasers. JeffNLisa, Norman in Missoula, Skeeter and Mike, Brian, and of course CG. It's good to see everyone's rides and take a break from the road.

Unlike the previous LA-Alaska trip of 2008 which was extremely long, we'll be only traveling around 4500 miles. This means we should have enough oil packed up for the trip--it will be close. My main question is: we are looking for cool sites to see along the path. What are some road-side oddities or "must-see" sites? Also, Civil and Revolutionary War sites are a priority of ours, as with National Parks, Historic Sites, or NASA/Space testing places.

Our homepage. Last year's roadtrip to Alaska. Email Contact.

Please reply back if you are on the path. PM me or email us your directions.

Default Columbus, OH

Let me know if/when you will be in/around columbus and if you need oil/whatever.
Hocking Hills state park about an hour south of here has a lot of cool structures/caves/rock formations from water activity. We go down a couple times a year for hiking and camping.

EliaLuca,
Thanks for the info--Hocking Hills looks great. Would you recommend Ash Cave or Old Man's Cave?
I'm not sure yet if we'll go through Columbus yet. It's 50/50. I have a friend in Toledo that we may visit, and if that happens, we'll skip Columbus. But we'll see.

Default New England Oil

If you find yourself in Southern RI, I can hook you up with at least 100 gallons of grease. Just lemme know. Steve.

Stevels,
Thanks for the offer. We'll know on the road when we hit RI if we are running low, so we'll PM if we need some oil.
What about sites to see in Rhode Island? Or in nearby states and counties?

You really can't go wrong, but I would plan to visit a couple of the sites. Old Man's Cave is by far the most crowded. Ash Cave is less crowded, but it is a little further away and is really just the one cave. A really really big cave, but only one.
I like Rock House, but it is small. Cantwell Cliffs imho is the best for taking a long walk.

If passing through the Dayton OH area, you might want to check out the National Museum of the US Air Force. It has not only the first flight aircraft, but just about everything since then, including apollo capsules, stealth aircraft...engines, uniforms, and they have a shop where you can pick up some momentos, models...All FREE!

HoldOnTight,
That AF museum is right on! My current path has us already going directly passed the hanger on Hwy 4.

EliaLuca,
I was looking at Cantwell Cliffs too. It looks like a great place to stop off after several hours of driving.

Great suggestions! Keep 'em coming.

Default Maine, Indiana, and New Brunswick

I've built up a large itinerary but I'm still having trouble finding things to do in Maine, Indiana or New Brunswick. I'm sure we have some greasers in those states and provinces.

current map.

Cool Beginning the trip tonight

Hi all,
We're heading out tonight, so if you haven't contacted us, are on the path and want to meet up, reply to this thread or PM us. It's always great to meet up with other greasers, see their rides, filtration systems, and so on.

I'll keep up with posts on Frybrid and images as we go (whenever we get wifi access). Also, if you have any last second suggestions on things to do or see in Eastern Canada and Northeast US, keep posting. Our itinerary is getting full, so thanks for the suggestions.
