&#8212; IDI Online\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Thirdly, make sure your FSS is getting power.\u00a0 Turn your key on without starting the engine.\u00a0 Go to the top of the IP and pull the FSS plug.\u00a0 Then touch the plug to the lead, and listen for clicking.\u00a0 If it clicks, it likely functions properly.\u00a0 If not, then your FSS is dead, and it&#8217;ll never let any fuel to the injectors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preparation H: Adjusting the Metering Valve:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alright, let&#8217;s assume you have made sure you have fuel getting to your Diesel filter, and let&#8217;s assume you have been purging air for a LONG time, and not a drop of Diesel fuel ever gets to your injectors when the lines are cracked.\u00a0 Then this is the time where you might have to deal with some hard truths.\u00a0 It is now very likely that your IP is garbage, and you&#8217;ll need to invest in a new pump.\u00a0 And with all new IDI IP&#8217;s, it&#8217;s prudent to replace all your injectors as well.\u00a0 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/fuel-system\/how-to-determine-a-good-idi-injector-pump-ip-from-a-bad-and-explanation-of-the-ip-cam-internals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here is a great video explaining the mechanics of an IDI IP<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>However, you have one last opportunity to resolve the possible injection issue.\u00a0 This is the process of moving the IP&#8217;s Metering Valve back and forth to unstick it.\u00a0 The metering valve is best explained in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ford-trucks.com\/forums\/1406576-hard-starting-a-7-3l-turbo-hot-or-cold.html#post15790738\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this FTE post by jdemaris<\/a> if you want to bone up on its mechanics.\u00a0 However, for the sake of this article, we are not necessarily modifying or altering or repairing the metering valve and its appurtenances, but rather, we are more-or-less just &#8220;exercising&#8221; it to make sure its not &#8220;stuck.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a video of the process:\u00a0 <em>(WARNING: I always make sure I wear a BRAND NEW latex glove when dipping my hand into a full injector pump reservoir!\u00a0 The smallest bit of dirt could clog the IP or injectors.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HzQ1zakyXDU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After manipulating this metering valve, be sure to return the IP cap precisely as you found it.\u00a0 Then tighten it back down.\u00a0 Then continue with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/fuel-system\/how-to-crack-injector-lines-and-purge-air-on-a-6-9-7-3-idi-diesel-engine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the injector line crack, purge, and cranking process detailed in this article.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180314_bleedsfw.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-398\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180314_bleedsfw-300x165.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180314_bleedsfw-300x165.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180314_bleedsfw-768x423.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180314_bleedsfw.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>What if the IP still doesn&#8217;t work?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If after several attempts of cranking, and there is still no Diesel bubbling out of the injector line caps, then there isn&#8217;t much more that can be done.\u00a0 Now you are on to Preparation I:\u00a0 (aka, <strong>Preparation I<\/strong>njector Pump Removal.)\u00a0 \u00a0 Sorry for bringing the bad news.
