{"id":264,"date":"2018-03-09T16:32:37","date_gmt":"2018-03-10T00:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/?p=264"},"modified":"2018-03-10T20:14:48","modified_gmt":"2018-03-11T04:14:48","slug":"6-9-7-3-idi-van-engine-mounting-bolt-replacement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/engine\/6-9-7-3-idi-van-engine-mounting-bolt-replacement\/","title":{"rendered":"6.9 \/ 7.3 IDI Van Engine Mounting Bolt Replacement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a certain bolt on the top of the driver&#8217;s side motor mount bracket that really pisses me off.\u00a0 It was designed too long and the mechanic MUST <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/engine\/6-9-and-7-3-idi-oil-cooler-repair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">extract the oil cooler assembly<\/a> to get the bracket out.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a messy project.<\/p>\n<p>Now I get that there are not many situations where a bracket removal is necessary, but I don&#8217;t like getting into that possibility.\u00a0 <strong>Luck favors the prepared man<\/strong>, so the next time I do my oil cooler, I&#8217;m going to find just the right size bolt that it still performs properly but allows for a full extraction without pulling the cooler.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-265\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180125_101700sfw.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180125_101700sfw.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180125_101700sfw-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180125_101700sfw-768x469.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a better picture of the problem:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-266\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180130_222150sfw.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180130_222150sfw.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180130_222150sfw-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180130_222150sfw-768x372.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/>As I unthread that darn top bolt, the freaking thing clashes with the cooler.\u00a0 No amount of finagling gets it out.\u00a0 It totally sucks ass.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-267\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180130_222201sfw.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180130_222201sfw.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180130_222201sfw-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180130_222201sfw-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Turns out, it is literally just a few threads too big.\u00a0 So I found a Grade 8 replacement that is 1\/8&#8243; shorter.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-268\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180304_115038sfw.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180304_115038sfw.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180304_115038sfw-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180304_115038sfw-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, the beast is fitted with a bolt that will allow me to pull the bracket without having to extract the cooler.\u00a0 I plan to use blue loctite as well, just in case there is a possibility that it might try to wiggle loose.\u00a0 I know this seems like a petty thing, but I&#8217;ve had a few scenarios where I wanted to pull the bracket (like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/engine\/1988-e250-van-7-3-idi-head-gasket-job-without-pulling-the-engine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the time I tipped the engine to put the HG&#8217;s on in the van engine bay<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/engine\/pulling-a-6-9-idi-engine-from-a-1984-e350-econoline-van\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the time I pulled the 6.9 by myself<\/a>, and so on&#8230;), and it would&#8217;ve been nice.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-270\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180304_122749sfw.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180304_122749sfw.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180304_122749sfw-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/20180304_122749sfw-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>No warranty.
