Econoline Radius Arm Mounting Bracking Install"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Been busy with work and skiing, which has been cutting into my van conversion time.\u00a0 I only had a day to work on it this week, so I did the job that I&#8217;ve been putting off for a while:\u00a0 Dropping the veggie tank to install the rad arm bracket on the driver&#8217;s side.<\/p>\n<p>The passenger side is easy.\u00a0 Not much in the way, and all I needed to do was remove the three bolts and cut one to avoid having to remove my downpipe.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" driver&#8217;s side, here was the condition of the used Pathfinder donor brackets.\u00a0 Needed some sanding, priming, and painting.\u00a0 Also I dunked all the hardware in Evaporust to make them good Pathfinder docs to figure out the orientation of the new brackets.\u00a0 Luckily the draftsman was super clear, and you can see the flange points toward the rear of the van.\u00a0 (see the red arrows)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1651 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/updatedphotosfw.jpg\" driver&#8217;s side old radius arm receivers out.\u00a0 However, I have a huge aluminum tank next to that part of the frame.\u00a0 I really don&#8217;t want to drop the tank, because I&#8217;m lazy, and it&#8217;s usually messy.\u00a0 \u00a0It is full of veggie oil, and also, it&#8217;s full of coolant as well, because the hotfox fuel pickup is mounted on the side.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, I&#8217;m running out of time to get this axle installed, so I gave it a shot today.<\/p>\n<p>After an hour of dripping, collecting, and dirty basins, I got the tank dropped.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t as bad as I remembered it.<\/p>\n<p>On to the old bracket.\u00a0 It&#8217;s currently dual-action as a mount for the trans linkage as well.\u00a0 Just undo those nuts and slide the trans linkage out of the way for now.\u00a0 I chocked the back wheels weeks ago when I started the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/suspension\/4x4\/quadravan-econoline-tear-down-1988\/\">teardown<\/a>, so I know the van won&#8217;t slip into neutral and roll on me.\u00a0 (the linkage is in red below)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1653\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/suspension\/dana-44-econoline-radius-arm-custom-bushing-work\/\">breaking the nuts on the bracket again<\/a>.\u00a0 The impact driver just busts the welds quite easily.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1654\" heap.<\/p>\n<p>Wanted to see the new bracket dry-fitted before giving her the goose.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1655\" loose than I thought.\u00a0 I have to drill some 1\/2&#8243; holes further back on the frame to get this installed.\u00a0 I used some white tempera paint on a q-tip, which worked well.\u00a0 I&#8217;m getting old now and just scratching it with a screwdriver isn&#8217;t doing it for me anymore.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1656\" pop.<\/p>\n<p>I used a center punch to make a good deep divot to start my drill bits.\u00a0 Want to make sure these don&#8217;t wobble on me.\u00a0 Progressively drilled with some good quality bits on slow speed with lots of cutting fluid.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1657\" heads on the back side of the bracket.\u00a0 I have to reinstall my veggie tank, and I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ll have enough room with those thick hex heads protruding into my space.\u00a0 It would work better if these are counter-sunk.<\/p>\n<p>I ran off to Hawthorne Hardware on Hawthorne Blvd, which usually has what I need.\u00a0 I know this would be a long short.\u00a0 Three countersunk allen-head bolts that are 1 1\/2&#8243; or larger length at 1\/2&#8243; diameter.\u00a0 I had about a 10% chance they&#8217;d have it.\u00a0 Sure enough, they DID.\u00a0 Crazy.<\/p>\n<p>I took my largest countersinker bit and tapped them down a notch.\u00a0 Sadly, my 3\/4&#8243; countersinker bit still wasn&#8217;t the diameter I needed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1660\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260220_165430-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"1235\" 473w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I used it for 80% of the way, then used a dremel to finish the countersink.<\/p>\n<p>I installed the countersinkers first.\u00a0 The bracket didn&#8217;t want to fit.\u00a0 I had to torque it into place on the frame.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1661\" frame was tricky, but doable.\u00a0 The crossmember for the trans and all the hoses get in the way, but it worked.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260220_181007.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1235\" height=\"570\"
