Rotor Bearing Replacement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m gunna be thorough.\u00a0 This isn&#8217;t a really tough project, but here you go.<\/p>\n<p>Before we get into the mess of working on a off the Lockouts are trivial<\/a>, but you need Allen wrenches and dental picks.<\/p>\n<p>Good god, that&#8217;s an ugly rotor.\u00a0 Looks like it was sitting in the rain for a dozen href=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/suspension\/dana-44-lockout-hub-maintenance\/\">get the lockout assembly off<\/a>, you can look down the spindle to see the spindle nuts.<\/p>\n<p><img that nest into each other, that you must take off in sequence.\u00a0 Here are the spindle nuts and hardware without the rotor:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone looks fine.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not one for wasting my money on a Chinese rotor, when this one still has thickness.\u00a0 Also, if it needs to be turned, I got a shop here in Inglewood that still does that.\u00a0 WOOT.<\/p>\n<p>When you take the rotor off, be careful to not drop the outer bearing on the floor.\u00a0 Like this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone under the edge of the seal just enough to get a good scraper under it.\u00a0 Then just pried it up around the perimeter of the seal until it was off.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" a seal.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not a pressure seal, just something to keep the bearing clean.\u00a0 The spindle nuts keep the rotor in place.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the bearing seal I used:\u00a0 Part that fancy new bearing with Mobil 1 Synthetic grease.\u00a0 \u00a0It&#8217;ll be messy, but that&#8217;s how greasing bearings is.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1546\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260114_113150-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1235\" height=\"570\" https:\/\/www.nickpisca.com\/diesel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/20260114_113150-1-768x354.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1235px) 100vw, 1235px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>FLIP that rotor over.\u00a0 Since nothing holds that outer bearing in place, it likely fell out of the rotor back when you pulled the rotor off the spindle.\u00a0 Pick it up off the ground, toss it in the trash, and greast up your new outer bearing.<\/p>\n<p>Then slide it in carefully, so that you don&#8217;t spill that new bearing on your dirty shop floor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone be greased up.\u00a0 Go back to the spindle on the knuckle.\u00a0 It should be VERY CLEAN.\u00a0 Any speck of dust or gravel will cause the races and bearings to fail.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" spindle with more grease, and slide the rotor on, careful to not lose the outer bearing on the floor like a loser.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full nuts.\u00a0 You have to make sure they go in this way, otherwise you&#8217;ll have problems.\u00a0 In the image below I&#8217;m showing the spindle nuts WITHOUT THE ROTOR INSTALLED, for simplicity of explanation.\u00a0 When you put the rotor on the spindle, you put these nuts on after the rotor is slid on.\u00a0 In the image below, the spindle nut with the peg goes on first.\u00a0 The spacer\/washer goes on second.\u00a0 The outer spindle nut WITHOUT the peg, goes on last.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1456\" the inner Spindle nut (with the peg) on, and the spacer\/washer on next.\u00a0 The outer spindle nut is not installed yet.\u00a0 NOTE, the spacer\/washer has an inner notch that must align with the light spec, and turned back a 1\/4&#8243; turn.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have the spec on me right now, but I&#8217;ll add that at a later date.\u00a0 The washer must align with the peg AND the spindle groove.\u00a0 It&#8217;ll take some time.\u00a0 Once that is done, thread on the outer spindle nut and torque it down to a massive spec.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll need a special tool for this, and my DIY PVC
