I got a message from Carlos Calderon at Newcastle University about posting a new position.  Turns out they are looking for a new Chair in Architecture and Chair in Architecture Research.  Feel free to forward this info onto your colleagues interested in these positions.

Some info from Carlos…

Chair in Architecture & Chair in Architecture Research

The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape is seeking to appoint two outstanding scholars at the Chair level to fulfil key strategic and leadership roles within the discipline of architecture.  It is envisaged that both posts will be integral to the future development of this highly successful discipline which has seen much recent University investment.

Chair of Architecture

An outstanding manager and high-calibre scholar is required to provide leadership, particularly in the delivery of the professionally accredited teaching programmes. It is envisaged that the appointee will lead the discipline of architecture for a period of 5 years and will hold a key position within the School’s Management Team.

In addition to a managerial role a key responsibility of the post-holder will be to develop the academic vision for architecture at Newcastle within the context of a multidisciplinary School and to work with other colleagues to implement a vision and strategy for research development within the architecture discipline.

The School welcomes all suitable applications but particularly from those with experience in managing accredited architectural education and/or proven research in areas that align with the School’s research in applied architectural research, architectural history and theory, urban design or social understandings of the built environment.

Chair of Architecture Research

An outstanding scholar is required to provide leadership within architecture research. The appointee will be expected to make a significant personal contribution to architecture’s research performance, building upon the successful outcome in RAE2008, and to contribute to strategy and vision for the ongoing development of research within the architecture discipline.

In addition to a research leadership role a key responsibility of the post-holder will be to work with other colleagues to develop research strategy within the overall academic vision for architecture at Newcastle.

The School is particularly looking to develop its Advanced Architectural Technologies Research Group but would welcome all suitable applications that align with its research strengths in architecture (including architectural history and theory, urban design or social understandings of the built environment).
